Tasting Notes
This is our first coffee from Arnulfo Leguizamo out of San Agustin, Colombia, but I promise you it won’t be our last. The dark chocolate note here is tempered by smooth vanilla sweetness that keeps the cup approachable and easy to drink. The orange juice brightness on the finish gives it just enough pop to make sure you reach for another sip. This is a daily driver. The kind of coffee you can brew in a V60 on slow days or put in your Moccamaster when you’re in a hurry. I’m so glad we’ve been able to start working with Arnulfo.-Matt
Finca El Faldon Coffee Production
Arnulfo Leguizamo is a coffee producer we love working with in Colombia. And not just because his nickname around Colombia is Juan Valdez (the much beloved Colombian coffee icon).
This weekend, we’re launching his variety blend—a coffee that was never supposed to exist.
Having experienced the havoc of coffee leaf rust, a devastating plant disease, Arnulfo decided to rethink his approach.
Instead of planting a single variety (allowing coffee leaf rust spores to spread easily), he began interplanting several more resistant varieties in the same area, helping slow the spread and protect his crop.
He chose three: Pink Bourbon, Tabi, and Colombia.
When harvest season rolled around, though, things didn’t go according to plan. Instead of keeping the varieties separate, his pickers combined all three.
But when Arnulfo tasted the result, he realized something: it was delicious! The blend was vibrant, balanced, and unexpectedly smooth. It was a true happy accident.
While we love our single origin, single variety coffees, we’re excited to bring you this special, happy-accident of a blend. It’s proof that sometimes the best coffees don’t go according to plan. We can’t wait for you to try it.
